TOPCon, MonoPERC Or Bifacial: What Should You Actually Compare?

When people start comparing solar panels, the same three names usually come up: TOPCon, MonoPERC and bifacial. The temptation is to ask which one is “best.” In practice, that question is too broad.

At Deepmala Power Industries, we prefer to start with the roof, the power need, and the way the system will be installed. As a Solar Panel Manufacturer in India, we know that a small residential terrace and a large commercial roof should not be planned the same way.

The technology matters. But the site decides how useful that technology will actually be.

TOPCon Works Well When Space Is Limited

TOPCon is often considered when higher efficiency is important. Put simply, higher efficiency helps you fit more rated power into the same roof area.

That matters on many Indian rooftops. Water tanks, staircases, nearby buildings, and shaded corners can reduce usable space quite a bit.

If only part of the roof gets clear sunlight, every square metre becomes important. In that situation, TOPCon can be worth considering.

Still, we would not pick it only because it is newer. Panel size, project cost, inverter support, roof layout, and the total power target all need to line up.

A newer technology does not automatically make every project better.

MonoPERC Still Makes Sense In Many Projects

MonoPERC has been used across rooftop solar projects for years, and it still has a place.

Take a house with a large, open terrace and very little shade. If the required system size fits comfortably, the buyer may not need to chase the highest efficiency available.

Cost, warranty, panel layout, and total generation may matter more.

This is where the actual site changes the decision. A buyer with 700 square feet of clear roof space has more flexibility than someone working with a small terrace full of obstacles.

At Deepmala Power Industries, we would rather choose a panel that fits the project than recommend one technology simply because it is currently more talked about.

Bifacial Panels Need The Right Setup

Bifacial panels are slightly different from TOPCon and MonoPERC.

They can use sunlight from the front and some of the light reflected onto the rear side. The extra benefit, though, depends a lot on how the panel is mounted.

A bifacial module fitted very close to a dark concrete roof may not get much light at the back. Raise that panel above a lighter surface with more open space around it, and the rear side may contribute more.

So, when we look at bifacial panels, we also look at the surface below them, mounting height, shade, and spacing.

The word “bifacial” alone does not tell you how much extra output you will get.

What A Solar Panel Manufacturer In India Checks On The Roof

The roof often tells us more than the brochure.

We look at how much clear space is available, where shade falls during the day, and whether a water tank or nearby building blocks sunlight. Panel direction and mounting also matter.

In many Indian cities, dust is another factor. A panel may have good specifications, but regular dust buildup can reduce the amount of sunlight reaching the cells.

Then there is heat. Rooftops can become extremely hot, especially in summer. So the full design should consider real working conditions, not just laboratory ratings.

As a Solar Panel Manufacturer in India, we see these site details as part of panel selection, not something to check later.

Do Not Choose A Panel Only By Wattage

This is one of the easiest mistakes to make.

Two panels may both show 550 W on the quotation, but that does not mean they are the same choice.

One may be physically larger. Another may offer higher efficiency. One may be monofacial, while the other is bifacial.

Then comes the bigger question: how many panels can actually fit on the roof without creating poor spacing or shade?

That is what affects the final system.

The inverter also has to support the planned solar capacity. Adding higher-output panels without checking inverter limits can create a mismatch elsewhere.

So before asking which panel has the bigger number, ask whether the full system is properly matched.

A Small Roof And A Large Roof Need Different Thinking

Imagine two buyers who both want the same solar capacity.

One has a compact residential terrace. Half the roof is taken up by a staircase and a water tank.

The second buyer has a wide commercial roof with very little shade.

The first buyer may benefit more from a higher-efficiency panel because usable space is tight. The second buyer can compare more options because there is room to work with.

Neither buyer needs the same answer.

That is why we do not start with “TOPCon is better” or “bifacial is better.”

We start with the site.

So, Which Panel Should You Choose?

TOPCon can be a strong option when roof space is limited and getting more output from that area is important.

MonoPERC can still work well where there is enough space and the system fits the budget and power target.

Bifacial panels can be useful when the installation allows light to reach the back of the panel in a meaningful way.

There is no universal winner.

At Deepmala Power Industries, our job is to match the panel with the roof, inverter, required capacity, and the way the system will actually be used.

That is a better way to choose than simply buying whichever technology sounds newest.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is TOPCon Better Than MonoPERC?

TOPCon can offer higher efficiency, which is useful when roof space is limited. MonoPERC can still be suitable where there is enough space for the required system size.

2. Is Bifacial The Same As TOPCon?

No. TOPCon refers to cell technology. Bifacial means the panel can also use light that reaches its rear side.

3. Are Bifacial Panels Good For Indian Homes?

They can be, but the setup matters. Mounting height, roof surface, shade, and the amount of reflected light all affect the benefit.

4. Which Panel Is Better For A Small Roof?

A higher-efficiency option such as TOPCon may be useful when usable roof area is limited.

5. What Should A Solar Panel Manufacturer In India Check Before Recommending Panels?

We check roof space, shade, mounting, power need, inverter limits, and the way the system will be used.

6. Should I Choose Solar Panels Only By Wattage?

No. Wattage is only one part of the decision. Panel size, efficiency, roof fit, mounting, inverter support, and the overall system design matter too.
